Convening

Main content start

With the engagement, expertise and contributions of many organizations in the electricity ecosystem, Bits & Watts provides an impartial platform for convening all stakeholders interested in developing a holistic, open-source, system-wide approach to the 21st century grid. This transformation will require commitment to cooperative problem solving. Bits & Watts’ activities will provide opportunities for diverse stakeholders to learn each other’s language, capabilities, gaps, trends and cultures.

Members of the electricity ecosystem will be able to engage with the initiative in many ways. Bits & Watts will hold an annual research symposium. We will also organize periodic meetings on specific topics at the intersection of technology, policy and economics. The initiative is also considering a program that brings to campus a small groups of former executives from across the industry for six months or a year to provide practical expertise on research, network building and events.

A Bits & Watts Advisory Council, comprising employees of initiative sponsors and other stakeholders, will guide the initiative’s executive team on real-world barriers to grid modernization. The Bits & Watts Strategic Council will identify future scenarios, challenges and opportunities. Employees of initiative sponsors and researchers at Stanford will work together on the strategy for the research and education agenda to address the identified scenarios, challenges and opportunities.
